Message from the Dean

The ESSEC Ph.D. Program trains future professors and researchers at top international level.

With its emphasis on research, the Ph.D. Program actively contributes to the production of outstanding dissertations that are widely recognized in the academic world.

Four main factors underpin the five years Program's success:

• a selective admission of high-caliber candidates with an aptitude for research, strongly motivated by a career combining teaching, research and consulting,
• a carefully-structured, demanding curriculum guaranteeing well-rounded, complete coverage of the relevant fields,
• seminars tailored to  provide students with thorough grounding for their future work,
• the excellence of the academic team involved in both teaching and research supervision.  

With the international diversity and quality of its faculty, it is one of the few programs in Europe to give an interdisciplinary view of business administration and economic research. The Ph.D. Program is also unique in its focus on international issues, with the emphasis on a culture of excellence rooted in the European humanist tradition. The program is entirely in English, and thus is accessible to a worldwide variety of students.

Besides specializing in a chosen area, a common core of courses and seminars covers the various fields, research methodology and analytical tools. Then students will start working on a dissertation under the supervision of an advisor and a dissertation committee. Given the predicted shortage of Ph.D.s in Business Administration over the coming ten years, doctoral students’ dedication will be rewarded by an attractive international academic career.
