Specialized Master’s (“MS”) degrees are post-Master’s diplomas with a sector-specific emphasis. A Specialized Master’s degree is not State-recognized, coming under the umbrella of a “collective brand name” that is owned by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles (an organization that brings together French business schools). It is also a label that is granted to specific education offered by schools affiliated to the Conférence, following a stringent accreditation process successful completion of which offers a long-term guarantee of academic excellence.
Candidates for Specialized Master’s degrees must already hold a Master’s level diploma (an engineering degree awarded by the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieurs, a degree from a business school affiliated to the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles, or a Master’s-level degree in Medicine, Pharmaceutics, Veterinary Science, Law or Architecture) or a university-awarded 2-year Master’s degree.
Candidates with a university-awarded 1-year Master’s degree but with 3 years of professional experience are also eligible to apply. Other applications comprising an original, high-quality academic background may also be considered on a dispensatory basis (these may not exceed 30% of total applications). Currently over 5 000 students have graduated from one of the ESSEC Specialized Master’s courses. Almost 65 500 students have completed such studies since their creation in 1986.
