Seed Funds

The ESSEC Ventures seed fund is aimed at projects issued from ESSEC incubators. It is intended to support projects in their start-up and take minority shares in the capital of start-ups. Intended to mitigate the lack of funding during the early phases, the ESSEC Ventures acts as institutional business angel. The fund also has a target on return on investment. ESSEC Ventures normally co-invests with other investors.

A double mission

The ESSEC Ventures seed capital fund invests in selected projects with high growth potential during the early phase of development. Created by ESSEC in 2006, the Chamber of Commerce of Versailles is also an institutional investor in 2008.

1/ Supporting entrepreneurship in the ESSEC ecosystem by providing start-up of strategic and tactical advice and mobilising the network of contacts in the Group and its partners.

2/ Contribute to the profitability of start-ups, assisting them in seeking more funding from institutional investors, on subsequent round.

Investments up until 31/12/2009

Sourcing projects based on the entire community and its ESSEC ecosystem

The ESSEC Group has developed over many years a significant presence in the areas of creation and resumption of businesses through:

- Its student incubator in Cergy
- Its innovative incubator in la Défense
- the Paris Biotech Santé Incubator
- Its alumni organisations
- its business plan competitions (Tremplin Entreprises)
- its training programs

The fund is part of a support system throughout the course of a project. It is reserved for projects that ESSEC has been able to accompany at the start-up in this ecosystem. The fund completes the ESSEC Ventures beyond the training and operational support projects.

Governance

The fund is an SAS with a Board of Directors consisting of Groupe ESSEC Group and CCIV members. An Investment Committee consisting of experts in venture capital, entrepreneurs and members of the ESSEC and the CCIV meets twice a year to decide upon the candidate projects submitted by ESSEC Ventures.
