Students from the Advanced Master in Financial Techniques recently visited Hong Kong for a study trip, where they visited key players in the industry for a look into the Banking and Finance industry in Hong Kong.

During the study trip, students visited leading banks and corporations such as the Bank of China and Société Générale, as well as the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. During their visit to the Bank of China, students enjoyed a tour of the premises, and had the opportunity to learn more about the history of the bank, as well as its role in developing the offshore Renminbi market.

At Société Générale, students were welcomed by 2 ESSEC alumni, who spoke about the business and introduced the various divisions in the bank such as Market Finance and Structured Finance, allowing students to have a better understanding of the organizational structure of the bank.

Students also met with ESSEC alumni working in Hong Kong at an Afterwork, for a chance to find out more about their experience as well as the employment landscape in Hong Kong.

Shailendra Jain, ESSEC Advanced Master in Financial Techniques (Financial Engineering Asia) student ambassador, tells us more about his experience, “The study trip was a good experience to interact with professionals, to understand how it is like working in the banking industry in this part of the world. With Hong Kong being one of the biggest markets in Asia, it was a great learning opportunity in terms of how the economy in this part of the world works, the profile of the investors and the views of the market participants and the challenges they face. The cultural exposure and network expansion were some of the additional gains from the trip. Coming from the Market Finance track, the visit to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange was the highlight of the trip for me, as we had the chance to discover how trading takes place, and understand how mainland China’s stock and bond markets are increasingly becoming more international.”
