He is among the ‘Top 25’ contributors on LinkedIn. Jérôme Barthélemy, Professor of Management and Strategy at ESSEC, has been placed 8th in the “2016 Top Voices” ranking of the leading social network for professionals.

“I like to learn new things and then to share them.’ Mission accomplished for Jérôme Barthélemy! The professor of Management and Strategy at ESSEC succeeded in getting noticed through his articles that are consulted tens of thousands of times on LinkedIn. Publications which are short, accessible and very tangible, and with a management strategy slant which earned him 8th place in the Top Voices ranking for the most influential contributors on LinkedIn. This former ESSEC graduate was overjoyed with the recognition he received: “It’s a great satisfaction because I wanted to do something quite pedagogical by using the best research in management. In the end, it managed to please the readers.’

It all originated in a new functionality proposed by LinkedIn several months ago. The social network makes it possible for users to publish content via a platform baptized “Pulse”. An exciting innovation that enables the sharing of research work to the widest audience. ‘LinkedIn is beginning to be well-known in France,’ states Jérôme Barthélemy. “This tool allows you to reach out to the corporate field at every level. It’s a great channel for researchers and for ESSEC because it adds exposure to our work.’

“It inspires me”

‘An original trick to check that a supplier is doing a good job’ or ‘Why are mediatized experts the least competent?’ Jérôme Barthélemy often publishes on what he thinks about. Pulse channel enables him to cover several issues. ‘Academic research is very long term – between 3 and 5 years,’ he explains.‘You’re often focused on only one subject. With this type of publication on LinkedIn, you can balance long-term research work with a shorter term issue. What’s more, it inspires me and gave me the possibility to find new ideas for research.’

Jérôme Barthélemy disseminates his research via several channels, making it possible to multiply his readers and so reach out to an ever-increasing public. He has also kept a blog since 2012, publishes videos on Xerfi Canal TV, LinkedIn and the press, and published a book in 2016, Libérer la compétitivité (Unleash your Competitiveness), Pearson, 2016. ‘In France we hear a lot from economists speaking about macro-economy,’ he analyzes. ‘people who speak about companies are much rarer. With these tools, we can show that the work ESSEC professors produce can benefit the whole society.’
