Our Programs

Design Thinking

Organizations with a strong culture of innovation understand the challenges of developing new ideas, solutions, and products while also managing the successful implementation of these innovations. Innovation requires finding original insight, skillfully translating them into testable prototypes, and carefully combining and refining the prototypes into a successful solution or product.

The objective of ESSEC Asia-Pacific’s Design Thinking workshop is to keep executives at the forefront of facilitating innovation. The course is designed around Experience Point’s award-winning ExperienceInnovation simulation (developed in collaboration with IDEO). The course is Singapore’s first and only executive education program to integrate ExperienceInnovation into the course framework, putting a strong focus on actionable learning.

About the Expert

Prof Kevyn Yong

Prof. Kevyn Yong is the Dean of ESSEC Asia-Pacific and Associate Professor of Management at ESSEC Business School. Prior to joining ESSEC, he was Associate Professor of Management at HEC Paris and also taught courses at Cornell University and the National University of Singapore.

He has been recognized for teaching excellence, notably being awarded the Pedagogy Innovation Prize by the HEC Foundation in 2011 and making the Dean’s Honor Roll at the S.C. Johnson School of Management at Cornell University in 2005 and 2006. While at HEC Paris, he has taught in the EMBA, MBA, PhD, and customized executive programs for the HEC-ATOS Gold Talent Development program in France, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Saudi Arabia, and the RI Advice Group from Australia. In addition, Kevyn has also delivered customized leadership and innovation programs for Amazon in Paris, France; EBAY in Shanghai, China; and BNP Paribas, Danone and NTUC LearningHub in Singapore.

Kevyn’s research focuses on creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership, particularly in the areas concerning cognition, collaboration, and social networks. His work has been published in the Journal of Econometrics, the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, and Small Group Research.

Business Model Innovation and Value Proposition

Today, companies have to think beyond their products and services. They have to embrace business model innovation to thrive, and sometimes to sustain. Successful companies have demonstrated an exceptional ability to re-invent themselves through their business model over the years. More than ever, it is imperative that business leaders master the design of sustainable and innovative business models and value propositions. This skills require a change of management practices and focus.

In this interactive session, participants will learn to design business models and value propositions. A practical toolkit will be introduced for approaching business model innovation in a systematic way. For this purpose, the Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Canvas will be presented and used. Influential examples of business model innovation will be provided to illustrate the concepts and tools.

About the Expert

Prof Jan Ondrus

Prof. Jan Ondrus is Associate Professor of Information Systems and Chaired Professor of Networked Business Models at ESSEC Business School. He is also the Director of Research for the Center of Excellence for Digital Business. His interests covers digital business models and innovation, mobile platforms and ecosystems, and strategy of IT. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) and Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (ECRA). In recent years, Prof. Ondrus has been a visiting faculty of the University of Hawaii, Sungkyunkwan University, Mannheim University, University of Lausanne, Case Western Reserve University, Seoul National University, and Korea Development Institute (KDI).

Rapid Prototyping

In today’s world, organizations are constantly pushed to innovate In order to reduce the cost and risk of innovation, prototyping is an essential activity to test ideas and iterate rapidly. 

In this course, the objective is to provide tools and first-hand experiences to fast prototype business models with a design thinking mindset. After instructions, the participants will work in small groups. A specific problem will be given to them. They will have to use the tools introduced to work on a solution. Finally, each group will have to present their prototype in an effective way.

MINI-MD

The Mini-MD is a comprehensive, intensive overview of all of medicine presented and designed for leading healthcare professionals who are not otherwise trained in medicine formally. It covers the basic, preclinical and clinical sciences, emphasizing the main principles and logic of medicine, how doctors think, and how the healthcare system works. About the Expert

Dr. Ogan Gurel is CEO at NovumWaves and holds academic appointments at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Health Sciences and Technology, the University of Melbourne in Australia and Libera Accademia Belle Arti in Brescia, Italy. Previously, he served as Chief Innovation Officer at Campus D, a startup incubator, and a Director in the CTO office at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. Prior to his residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the U.S., Dr. Gurel obtained his M.D. and M. Phil. Degrees from Columbia University and graduated cum laude with his Bachelor’s degree at the Harvard College.

About the Expert

Mr Denis MorissetMr. Denis MORISSET is an ESSEC Graduate with 20 years of professional experience in the Luxury Industry, and was COO of Ralph Lauren Europe, CEO of Pierre Balmain Couture House and CEO of Giorgio Armani France. In 2004, he founded his own consulting company, specializing in Luxury Brand Management and International Luxury Distribution, with a particular focus on emerging luxury markets in Asia, primarily China. He collaborated with international companies on brand extensions & branding issues. He has also advised new brands and designers from emerging markets on their international distribution and retailing strategies.

Since 2004, Denis has been teaching luxury marketing at ESSEC Business School (LVMH Chair at ESSEC Grande Ecole, ESSEC MBA in International Luxury brand management, IMHI (ESSEC Hospitality and Tourism MBA), ESSEC Executive Management programs. He served as the Executive Director of ESSEC MBA in International Luxury Brand Management from 2004 to 2012. 

He also regularly lectures at several Asian universities, in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, and he is often invited to deliver keynote speeches at luxury summits and conferences, particularly in Asia in addition to Brazil, Russia, India and the Middle East.

Luxury Brand Management: The Impact of E-Commerce and Digital Marketing on Luxury Retail Management

In the last 25 years, luxury and premium brands have learnt to better control and communicate their brand DNA and codes, increase the consistency of their brand architecture and brand expressions across product categories and regions, increase their control on distribution & retailing to get closer to their consumers and develop consumers’ knowledge.

Luxury Brand Management: Luxury Hospitality and Destination Branding & Marketing Strategy

The concept of luxury brand management has become increasingly inspirational across different industry sectors. This workshop will give participants in-depth understanding of the best practices and success factors of luxury brands and most importantly what lessons can be applied in the hotel & tourism industry in terms of luxury branding and luxury service/experience delivery.

Negotiation

Crafting successful business deals that deliver optimal results is more than just being persuasive. Today’s business leaders need the right skills to influence and bring the right partners together in order to navigate the complex business world. Strategic negotiation is as much the art of the deal as it is tactical play. It is also about being a masterful communicator, making connections across a broad spectrum of ideals, values and goals.

During the Influential Negotiation for Leaders Executive Program, participants will learn how to utilize their own negotiation strengths and focus on key areas of improvement. Mr Ta Wei Chao

Mr. Ta-Wei Chao is currently a Senior Fellow at ESSEC IRENE (Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation, ESSEC Business School). He was the Executive Director of the Asian branch of IRENE and a consulting manager at Accenture Taipei office. He hosted executive workshops on negotiation, cross-cultural management and leadership frequently in Europe and Asia, for companies and business organizations (Clarins, Bank of China, Bank of Singapore, Alcatel-Lucent, Faurecia, Medtronic, Shanghai Electric, Thales, French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hong Kong, etc.), public organizations (European Commission, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, China’s State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, etc.), and higher education institutions (ESSEC, ENA, Sciences Po Paris, Centrale, ENPC, Mannheim Business School, National University of Singapore, Indian Institute of Management, Arabian Gulf University, National Taiwan University, Fudan University, etc.)
