The Finance department offers a large selection of finance courses in our different programs or specializations.
In the Grande Ecole program, the Finance Track is divided into 6 options offering specialized coursework in: Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, General Finance, and Energy and Commodity in Cergy, and Financial Markets and Corporate Finance in Singapore.
The Master in Finance, recognized by the French Higher Education and Research Ministry as a Master Degree, is a one-year graduate program tailored to individual needs and goals. It offers 3 specialized tracks in Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, and Asset Management. Students can choose to enroll the program either on the ESSEC France campus (Cergy, Paris area), or the ESSEC Asia-Pacific campus (Singapore). Regardless of campus choice, the program - and intake - starts in September.
The ESSEC Finance Department, along with a selected network of industry professionals, offers an Executive Education Wealth Management program on its campus at La Défense. This program, offered in French, is meant for financial advisers working in the Asset Management and Wealth Management area.
As part of the ESSEC PhD, the Department is also responsible for the Finance PhD program, where the first two years are spent on doctoral-level coursework, followed by a comprehensive exam and a research phase that is conducted under the supervision of the faculty members.
Partnership with the CFA Institute
The ESSEC Finance Track and the Advanced Master’s in Financial Techniques are partners of the CFA Institute, which administers the "Chartered Financial Analyst program".
The department’s research covers a broad spectrum of key areas in finance: Asset Pricing, Financial Derivatives, Risk Management, Commodities, Portfolio and Wealth Management, Macro-Finance, Market Microstructure, Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity, Corporate Governance, Real Estate and Corporate Bankruptcy, Financial Econometrics. The Department’s researchers have published in some of the world’s top academic journals including the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Law, Economics and Organization, Journal of Econometrics, Review of Finance, Finance. The Finance Department along with the Research Center holds a series of weekly research seminars over the academic year where guest speakers present the most recent theoretical and empirical research in Finance.
Associated Centers of Excellence, Research Chairs & Centers
ESSEC Finance Chair
The ESSEC Finance Chair has an objective to strengthen the interest of students and young graduates on the subject of finance, notably in the field of Asset management, and via the use of a network of renowned researchers and practitioners. On the longer term, the Chair facilitates the development of learning and research within the Finance studies Department, and the dissemination of results in circles and academic media as well as in the trade press.
ESSEC Amundi Chair
The objectives of the ESSEC – Amundi Chair in Asset and Risk Management are:
- to promote academic research in the field of Asset & Risk Management and the foster cooperation between ESSEC and Amundi researchers;
- to offer a series of research seminars to Amundi collaborators and institutional clients;
- to organize an annual conference on the Chair’s theme;
- to set up a framework for the joint supervision and the financing of a student who wish to pursue PhD in finance at ESSEC on a topic related to the Chair.
Energy and Commodity Finance Research Center
The Energy and Commodity Finance RESEARCH CENTER at ESSEC Business School aims at promoting research and disseminating knowledge in the field of commodity markets and energy finance. This goal is pursued by undertaking research projects and hosting activities for incentivizing interaction across disciplines including finance, economics, financial mathematics, operations research, and management science. Focus is put on bridging international collaborations among researchers at a worldwide level. The center organizes scientific conferences, runs a monthly webinar, supervises a dedicated graduate track, and manages Argo Review, a journal devoted on cutting-edge knowledge in the field.
