ESSEC Companies and partners: The apprentice supervisor's job

Throughout the apprenticeship program, apprentices are supported by professionals in their field of interest, and thus the apprentice supervisor becomes one of the program teachers. This tripartite relation facilitates the apprentices’ development and professional progress.

Training objectives and formative attitudes

The apprenticeship supervisor plays an essential role in the process of skill acquisition by apprentices. The supervisor must manage the apprentice and provide tasks that enable him or her to assimilate knowledge – acquire and professional behavior. He helps the apprentice to progress progress by sharing his professional experience while ensuring that skills are being acquired.

Job content

Job content must be relevant and appropriate to the technical and managerial skills to be developed by the training program. Apprentices must experience situations that allow them to use theories and concepts analyzed in courses and seminars. The tasks must let apprentices participate in creating value for the company and not spend too much time on repetitive tasks.

Evaluation and validation of the apprenticeship experience

All apprentice students are monitored by a supervisory tutor, an ESSEC faculty member who ensures consistency in the process and validates the level of managerial skills acquired on the job, and a company tutor, known as the apprentice supervisor, who must integrate the student into the company and monitor on-the-job progress.
To ensure that the contract is functioning properly, tutors communicate on a regular basis.
