Interview with Rohini Balasubramanian (SM SMIB/recipient of Thales/Foreign Affairs Ministry scholarship) and Gurav Gupta (MBA IMHI/recipient of Accor scholarship)

The ESSEC Business School

What made you want to study in France, and ESSEC in particular?

Rohini Balasubramanian: My personal aim was to work in “project mode” within an international environment. I have already studied engineering and would now like to complete my previous experience within a business school such as ESSEC. I am convinced that the Specialized Master’s degree in Strategy and Management of International Business will enable me to acquire the solid grounding and skills in commerce that I require, as well as giving me the perfect opportunity to improve my French.

Gurav Gupta: I came to France specifically for the MBA in International Hospitality Management that is available at ESSEC. I chose this program in particular on account of the very high reputation that it enjoys within the sector in question. So, by opting for this course, I was fairly certain of reaping the benefits professionally afterwards.

What did you know about Thales and Accor before coming to study in France and what did you expect of these companies as recipients of scholarships?

Rohini Balasubramanian: Former colleagues of mine have already worked with the Thales Group on various projects, on the basis of which they strongly recommended Thales to me. My feeling is that working closely with such a group in my capacity as a Thales scholarship student is bound to help me in my career path as it will involve operating in a commercial and financial context on international projects.

Gurav Gupta: The Accor Group is one of the largest and most prestigious hospitality groups in all of India. While studying at the Indian Institute of Hotel Management, one of the very best in India, we had an opportunity to work on various projects directly involving Accor.
