Regrouping expertise by discipline

A department groups together professors who share complementary expertise in their discipline. Instruction and curriculum are developed and coordinated for all ESSEC programs in these departments under the management of the department head, who is chosen by his or her colleagues. ESSEC currently has eight departments.

Education

The Economics Department offers introductory courses in macroeconomics and microeconomics for all ESSEC programs. A basic course in managerial economics provides in-depth knowledge of industrial organization to students at the end of their study program.

The department also offers advanced electives in various fields that are relevant to management or that foster a better understanding of major societal issues, including international economics, public economics, industrial economics, monetary issues, labor economics and the history of economic thought. These courses comprise an economics discipline that regularly attracts motivated students, some of whom will become researchers and international public servants.

Finally, ESSEC offers advanced courses in its Ph.D. program in economics in partnership with researchers at the University of Cergy Pontoise.

Research

Professors in the Department of Economics are actively engaged in various applied and theoretical research fields such as industrial organization, health economics, experimental economics and game theory, among others and topics relevant for businesses and for society.

They regularly present their work at the best international conferences and publish in well known international academic journals, including Journal of Economic Theory, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Macroeconomics, etc.

The Professors of the Department of Economics are members of THEMA, a prestigious CNRS research lab, thanks to the convention between ESSEC Business School and THEMA signed three years ago. The agreement between ESSEC, THEMA and UCP allows the PhD Program to welcome 3-4 new PhD students every year.

Faculty

The department has 13 full-time faculty and 6 part-time lecturers.
