Eurozone crisis: deeper integration or complete disintegration?

ESSEC economists André Fourçans and Radu Vranceanu offer ESSEC Knowledge their perspectives.

 

Is the crisis leading the eurozone towards stronger integration or complete disintegration? When talking about the current economic situation in the eurozone and the choices open to Europe’s leaders, conflicting viewpoints abound.
 
André Fourçans – Distinguished Professor at ESSECand former member of the European Parliament (1986-1999) – would argue that the European Union is already on the road to deeper integration.
 
On the other hand, Radu Vranceanu – Professor of Economics at ESSEC and Dean for Research – argues that, given the excessive public debts in many member countries, ordered disintegration is the only needed response.
