ESSEC Asia Pacific: Embracing the challenges of a fast growing region
In an increasingly global education market, ESSEC Business School is willing to grasp the challenges of rapid globalization and has undertaken a series of initiatives to expand its global reach. Higher education needs are expected to evolve significantly, especially in Asia (+70 million students expected from 2000 to 2015), faced with a new imperative that is to develop and train a strong pool of talented individuals, able to demonstrate creativity and address multicultural issues. As a leading institution in Europe, the core of ESSEC’s global strategy is now focused on accelerating its development in Asia Pacific.
For years, the school has historical partnership agreements with prestigious universities in the region such as Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Keio University, Peking University, Seoul National University and in Singapore: National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and Nanyang Technological University, in which it also has a dual degree agreement.
With its size and economically dynamic atmosphere, Asia Pacific is at the center stage of new managerial and development challenges. The Asia Pacific campus, strategically located in the vibrant city of Singapore, represents the perfect foothold for ESSEC Business School to respond to the increasing demand for management education in Asia.
ESSEC Asia Pacific delivers several top-notch academic programs and has already welcomed over 2,500 students and participants to Executive Education programs at its Asia Pacific campus. With the contribution of 11 permanent Professors and 2 Executive Directors, and under the impetus of Professor Hervé Mathe, Dean of ESSEC Asia Pacific, the school is driven to enhance management education by researching new concepts related to areas such as Innovation Strategies, Financial Modeling, Digital Marketing, Information Systems and the Digital Economy, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Real Estate Finance, Accounting and Management Control, among others.
The range of academic programs available in Singapore has expanded over the years. The campus now offers, either totally or partially, full-time programs such as the Master of Science in Management, the Advanced Master in Strategy and Management of International Business, in Financial Techniques or in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, the Bachelor in Business Administration or the Global MBA. These enriching learning experiences highly contribute to benefit the students, being immersed in a multicultural environment and exposed to Asian business issues. Additionally, students in Singapore are often involved in corporate projects like the Asian Strategy Project, collaborating closely with professionals based in the region, particularly in China, India and Hong Kong.
ESSEC Asia Pacific is actively involved in developing close collaborations with companies in the region evidenced by mutual engagement to corporate related projects, career placement successes, and ground breaking research. This commitment has propelled the launch of three research institutes: The Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation (IRENE Asia), the Institute of Health Economics and Management (IHEM Asia) and the Institute for Service Innovation and Strategy (ISIS Asia). To encourage further sharing and exchange of knowledge, the school organizes regularly thematic events such as in December 2012, the Cross-Border Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium with Singapore Management University, and the Symposium on Globalization and the Return of Geography in partnership with ESSEC Center for Capitalism, Globalization, and Governance in February 2013.
In recent years, ESSEC Asia Pacific has been collaborating with regional and multinational companies as part of its Executive Programs (e.g. Renault Samsung Motors, Shanghai Electrics or Medtronics and Clarins for Negotiation and Leadership). This year, ESSEC Asia-Pacific is launching a new series of Executive Workshops designed for professionals willing to develop their skills, expand their expertise and embrace new perspectives. Several workshops are scheduled in the coming months. For instance, ‘Negotiate Business Deals in China’ in June, ‘Marketing Analytics on Digital Platforms’ in September and “Strategizing Social Media Marketing” and “Luxury Brand Management” in October.
Today, ESSEC Asia Pacific aims to focus furthermore on the Asian market. The launch of a new range of Executive Education programs as well as the opening of the Asian Track of the Master of Science in Management in January 2013reflects well this intention.
