A first was achieved at the beginning of the new academic year with the number of international students (including students on exchanges) at ESSEC now into four figures, out of an overall total of 3900. A closer look at admissions by program reveals an interesting evolution and confirmation of the rigorous selection process.
Increased selectivity and diversity in the ranks
Interest in the EPSCI BBA in International Management continues to rise, evidence of which is the record 4056 candidates to have sat the SESAME competitive entrance exam in France. 814 were eventually admitted, testimony to the high standards required of ESSEC’s EPSCI students. EPSCI is continuing to attract international students too, with 86 students for the Autumn semester from 20 countries and a further 60 students expected in the Spring.
The Specialized Master’s intake totaled 506, a figure that includes 22 nationalities and 13 double nationalities. The first 25 students to take the Specialized Master’s in Strategy and Management of International Business in its entirety at the ESSEC Asian Center have begun their studies in Singapore. The Specialized Master’s degrees in Financial Techniques, and International Business Law and Management also proved especially popular with international students.
At MBA level, the MBA in International Luxury Brand Management saw the most significant change in terms of the composition of its new intake. For a program that has so far been principally female-dominated and with a strong representation from Asia, a 25-14 female/male split is a new phenomenon, as is the increased presence of participants from Europe and the Americas.
The MBA in International Hospitality Management (IMHI) registered 58 new participants, with approximately two thirds opting for the 2-year track, as opposed to the 1-year option. 38% of the new intake are international participants.
The ESSEC MBA admitted 212 students directly into the MBA Period, a figure that includes 68 international students (20 of European origin) and 12 double degree students.
The appeal of the Ph.D. program abroad continues, with 75% of the 16 new arrivals being of international background.
