Creating business knowledge at the service of the community
Recent projects promoting ethical business practices

ESSEC continues to set up new projects and expand existing ones in favor of the community, both locally and on a wider scale. The goal that remains common to all: promoting the importance of ethical responsibility within a business context. The International Newsletter looks at three recent initiatives that encapsulate this desire.

ESSEC measures its carbon footprint

A major internal survey of the school’s carbon footprint has been underway in recent months, on the initiative of the Social Entrepreneurship Chair. The aim is to assess the various greenhouse gas emissions created by activities relating to conferences, associations events and commuting.
The project has the backing of two external corporate partners: Ecofys and Fondaterra.

Global Social Adventure – a responsible business creation project

A new competition is available to ESSEC students as of this year in the form of Global Social Adventure.
In existence since 1999, the event is now open to French students as well.
The challenge for participants consists in the creation of a company acting in the interests of Society and/or the environment.

Following selection at ESSEC of the national finalists in December, the next stages comprise the presentation of business creation projects at London Business School (UK), and then the Haas School of Business (USA). Successful entrants will have the opportunity to meet potential investors.

Bocciavenir – overcoming physical disability

As reported previously in the International Newsletter, alumni of the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA have been instrumental in the Bocciavenir project. The aim of the initiative is to improve and promote access to sporting activities for people with physical disabilities.

Recognition of their efforts came in December with the awarding of the “Atout Soleil” prize for the Paris area. Bocciavenir was chosen from over 50 entrants. As a result of the project’s success, the French Handisport Federation also received a check for € 5000.
