Celebrating 5 years of the ESSEC Leadership and Diversity Chair

What is your role in an evolving world?

The world is evolving and we are evolving with it. In 2012, the Chair changed its name to ESSEC Leadership and Diversity Chair fully recognizing the key role of responsible leadership in a world characterized by diversity in all its forms.

Be it cultural and religious diversity in global firms, gender quotas on corporate boards, or intergenerational diversity in an aging society with the generation Y entering the workforce, every kind of diversity has the potential to positively impact firm performance through responsible leadership.

In these times of economic, political and social crisis, it is more essential than ever to find new understandings and ways of creating value and doing business. In line with ESSEC’s values, responsibility and innovation guide the Chair’s research to respond to current challenges. Diversity constitutes an essential antecedent for managerial innovation and fostering organizational learning. Combining the practical experience of our two partner firms, Deloitte and L’Oreal, and our international network of diversity leaders and expert academic knowledge, we aim to promote leadership and diversity as a motor for innovation and societal change.

The ESSEC Leadership and Diversity Chair offers students a specialized program combining theoretical perspectives, practical knowledge acquired through presentations by professionals from Deloitte and L’Oréal, and hands-on experience through concrete projects with our partner firms.

During our six-month intensive program, students incorporate the importance of various kinds of diversity for the leadership of a firm, and also develop their own leadership styles during our MBTI and leadership workshops and through their projects. Their learning is put into practice in their presentations at the annual Chair conference before an audience of more than 250 professionals. The Chair gives a voice to tomorrow’s responsible leaders to show us their answers for the future.
