ESSEC Interdisciplinary Seminar: "Questioning the crisis"


The Forum brings together over fifty members of ESSEC faculty, assembling the expertise of specialists from different management fields in a dedicated forum for academic debate about the crisis.

The forum is coordinated by Professor Alain Pekar Lempereur.
Four Goals

• Analysis of the causes of the crisis
• Analysis of the impact of the crisis on various management fields and their disciplines
• Contribution to problem solving including concrete propositions
• Evaluation of solutions that have been tried
Third conference of the ESSEC Interdisciplinary Forum

This third edition of the ESSEC Interdisciplinary forum will focus upon a review of the political measures implemented in the wake of the financial crisis, and analyse the impact of the stimulus packages, particularly those in Europe and the USA.

Second conference during ESSEC Innovation Day – April 9th, 2009

Innovation in the time of crisis, balancing prudence and risk-taking

On the 9 April 2009 the second conference of the ESSEC Interdisciplinary Forum « Questioning the Crisis » took place in les Salons de la Maison des Arts et Métiers.

In a difficult economic climate, how can innovation be a survival tool? Managing innovation in a time of crisis means being able to balance measured risk-taking with prudence.
• Academic viewpoint on the crisis
• Best practices for companies

To address this issue, the ESSEC Interdisciplinary Forum presented “Innovation in the time of crisis, balancing prudence and risk-taking” and ESSEC’s  Thèmes d’Entreprises Symposium discussed “Innovation in practice: How to make the best out of innovation in a period of crisis.”

Highlights of the ESSEC Interdisciplinary Forum were:
- The plenary session chaired by  Pierre Tapie, director of ESSEC and  Alain Pekar Lempereur, professor and coordinator of the Forum.
- Two round-tables presenting the research of 50 ESSEC professors.
- The innovation workshops on financial and economical, HR and marketing driven innovations.

Kick-off Conference - December 17th, 2008

The kick-off conference of the ESSEC Interdisciplinary Forum took place on December 17th 2008. It then allowed the release of its first publication “Le Leadership responsable. Un allié sûr contre la crise”, publié chez Gualino, L’Extenso Editions.
