ESSEC's Centenary - Recent events

Since the previous issue of the International Newsletter, the Centenary has continued to gather pace via a series of academic, cultural and sporting events in and outside France.

The International ESSEC Days represent a significant highlight for alumni living and working abroad. The Morocco “ESSEC Day” on February 23 was attended by 400 people and included a specially organized evening in Casablanca that had amongst its guests the French Ambassador to Morocco and Abdellatif Benazzi (former French rugby international and ESSEC alumnus).

Alumni were also very much to the fore in France, with a special “1900” theme night being organized by members past and present of the Internationality Hospitality Management Institute at Paris’ renowned “Musée du Vin”.

The regional Alumni scene was represented by a special evening in Dauphiné and the Pays de Savoie, attended by Jean-Luc Decornoy who made the most of the opportunity to keep the region’s alumni up-to-date on ESSEC developments.
A formal gathering of alumni under the umbrella of the Centenary was held at the French Senate on April 16, in the form of the Alumni General Assembly.

Current student activity was especially high, with sporting events including the traditional Tournoi des 5 ballons  (Europe’s largest student sports event comprising basketball, football, handball, volleyball, and rugby competitions) and the “Trophée des Rois” inter-school rowing cup.
At the latter event, held at the Château de Versailles, ESSEC’s ladies’ coxless eights emerged victorious ahead of ESCP and HEC.
In March, the Centenary special “Nuit de la Pub” offered students the chance to enjoy an entire evening discovering the ins and outs of the world of advertising, whilst the photographic association Noir sur Blanc was especially active, both for a special Centenary photographic exhibition and during the Gala Night on June 2.
Just a few days after, on June 8, the Musical association performed at no more prestigious a venue than Paris’ Olympia.

Conference activity was also high, notably via Handimove, a 4-day series of conferences and actions designed to raise awareness of opportunities for the handicapped in working life.

Students, professors, personnel and companies attended an event launched by Companieros and former ESSEC student Antoine de Gabrielli (E83). The 10th anniversary of the EPSCI apprenticeship scheme was celebrated via a day-long event, whilst the burning issue of the environmental responsibilities of the business world was examined at depth at an event staged at the French Senate.

More news on these and other events are available at the official centenary website www.essec100years.com. The Centenary e-Shop is also open, offering a range of special products, including the Centenary book (English version available from September).
