What is an Advanced Master’s program accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles?

Advanced Master’s are post-Master’s degrees with a sector-specific orientation. An Advanced Master’s is not a State-defined degree; it is a label granted to a specific training program by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles (holder of the “Mastère Spécialisé” name), following a stringent accreditation process that assures lasting excellence and recognition.

  • The Advanced Master’s programs confer 75 ECTS credits
  • 74,500 students have enrolled in these programs since their creation in 1986
  • Nearly 8,000 students have earned an ESSEC Advanced Master’s degree

Who are these programs designed for?

  • The Advanced Master’s programs (Mastères Spécialisés) are designed for students finishing their studies and working professionals regardless of their initial training (engineers, economists, managers, medical professionals, pharmacists, lawyers etc.).
  • Accepted candidates have excellent academic and/or professional achievements, high potential and strong motivation to complete an Advanced Master’s program linked to a relevant professional plan, aligned with their initial training or with subsequent professional experience.

Prerequisite degrees

Candidates for the Advanced Master’s Programs (Mastères Spécialisés) must hold degrees equivalent to a Master's Degree and these may be degrees in engineering, degrees from business schools, degrees in medicine, pharmacy, veterinary science, law, architecture, etc..., or a Bachelor's Degree with three years of professional experience.

Other candidacies (Bachelor's Degree) from applicants with unusual backgrounds or quality career paths will also be examined as special cases (acceptance not to exceed 30% of total student body)

The ESSEC difference...

Close contact with companies: business professionals are involved in the admissions panel and teach 40% of all classes and seminars, the ESSEC campus, involvement of 180 companies, short-term positions in companies, etc.

Individual support provided to each student for the development of his or her career plan: orientation, training in job search tools and techniques, sponsorship, etc.

An average of 550 hours of classes and lectures for each Advanced Master’s degree

  • A short-term course (five to ten days) completed abroad
  • A four-to-six month position in a company either in France or abroad
  • Special attention paid to personal values such as openness to others, in particular through the Team Building and Leadership seminar, group projects and company management simulation activities.
  • A multi-faceted education, with sharing of experiences, real case studies, problem resolution, group projects and a short-term position in a company
  • A diverse student body with a variety of specializations and geographical origins
  • Internship opportunities for certain Advanced Master’s programs
