We look back on some of the November highlights at the ESSEC Asia-Pacific campus in Singapore...

Our Career Services team organized the first-ever Virtual Postgraduate Networking Event. Our Global MBA participants and Master’s students attended presentations by industry leaders such as LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics, Sodexo, and interactive sessions with L'Oréal. Individual consultations with company representatives were also available. A big thank you to these corporate partners who took part in the event:  Alcimed, Amaris Consulting, Artefact, Bolloré Logistics, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), Equiteq, Frost & Sullivan, L'Oréal, LVMH (Fashion Group), LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics, Neu Entity, Richemont, Sleek, Société Générale, Sodexo, SPRIM and Ubisoft!

November was also a month replete with professional talks. The Master in Finance welcomed these top names from the industry: 

  • Bruno de Pampelonne shared about the establishment and development of Tikehau Capital.

  • Clifford Lee, Global Head of Fixed Income at DBS Bank, discussed the evolution of the Asian bond market, the elements of a blockbuster deal, and the distinction between long-term career success and short-term reward.

  • James Tyler, founder of Tyler Capital – a trading company focused on global derivatives markets using machine learning – shared about the sacrifices and failures that led to his entrepreneurial journey’s success.

  • Jean-Pierre Michalowski, Senior Country Officer for Singapore at Crédit Agricole, shared insights into the company’s sustainable banking model.

  • Joris Dierckx, Regional Head of Southeast Asia at BNP Paribas, shared lessons from his diverse managerial experience in India, Greece, Japan, Korea, and Singapore to highlight the importance of motivating diverse populations and dealing with shifting risk perceptions and competitive advantages.

  • Lamine Konaté, Executive Director at Standard Chartered Bank Singapore, gave an insightful presentation on the role and significance (aka quants) in the finance industry. 

  • Nicolas Lebard, Senior Managing Director and Head of Singapore at M&A firm Tiro Capital, shared insights about mergers and acquisitions deals and what it takes to become an investment banker.

  • Theodora Lai, Director at Tembusu Partners, a boutique private equity (PE) fund manager headquartered in Singapore, gave valuable insights into the dynamic nature of the evolving PE industry. 

  • Mathilde Swierczynska, Managing Director, Head of Private Wealth Compliance at @SMBC Nikko Securities Inc in Singapore, highlighted the role of compliance in financial institutions with this revelation.


 

 

 

 

 

 

SMIB MENTORING PROGRAM:

The SMIB Mentoring Program was launched on 18 Nov by Academic Director Dr. Anne-Flore MAMAN LARRAUFIE, together with Will Chang, Larry Medina, and Ian Ong, at the ESSEC Asia-Pacific campus. Exclusive to the SMIB APAC cohort, this initiative aims to connect 40 students with mentors coming from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Over the next eight months, the mentees will receive personalized guidance from their mentors to better understand the local culture, business environment, and any challenges they may face. The Mentoring Program, which offers a unique opportunity for the students to grow, upholds ESSEC’s values of community and sharing.
