Research
The department’s research covers a broad spectrum of key areas in finance: Asset Pricing, Financial Derivatives, Risk Management, Commodities, Portfolio and Wealth Management, Macro-Finance, Market Microstructure, Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity, Corporate Governance, Real Estate and Corporate Bankruptcy, Financial Econometrics.
The Department’s researchers have published in some of the world’s top academic journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Review of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Law, Economics and Organization, Journal of Econometrics, Finance.
The Finance Department along with the Research Center holds a series of research seminars where guest speakers present the most recent theoretical and empirical research in Finance.

The Department is responsible for the PhD program Finance concentration, where the first two years are spent on doctoral-level coursework, followed by a comprehensive exam and a research phase conducted under the supervision of the faculty members.

Education
The ESSEC Finance department offers a large selection of finance courses in different programs or specializations.
In the Master in Management /Grande Ecole program, the Finance Track is divided into six options offering specialized coursework in: Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, General Finance, and Energy and Commodity on the Cergy campus, and Financial Markets and Corporate Finance on the Singapore campus.

The Master in Finance, recognized by the French ministry for Higher Education and Research as a Master’s degree, is a one-year graduate program tailored to individual needs and goals. It offers three specialized tracks in Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, and Asset Management. Students can choose to enroll either on the ESSEC France campus in Cergy (Paris area), or on the ESSEC Asia-Pacific campus in Singapore. On both campuses, the program - and intake - starts in September.
The Finance Department, along with a selected network of industry professionals, offers an Executive Education Wealth Management program on ESSEC Executive Education at La Défense campus: it is meant for financial advisers working in the Asset Management and Wealth Management area and is taught in French.
On the ESSEC Executive Education Campus at Paris La Défense, the Finance Department:
- Offers executive seminars specialized in wealth management covering both wealth allocation and wealth organization, along with a network of selected practitioners. The seminars can be organized on ESSEC campus and within firms.
Partnership with the CFA Institute
The ESSEC Finance Track is a partner of the CFA Institute, which administers the Chartered Financial Analyst program.
